How the two work
An OLED screen lights each pixel on its own. A black pixel is simply switched off, which is why blacks look truly black and colours pop. A TFT (LCD) screen has one backlight behind all the pixels and blocks it where the image should be dark — so black is really a very dark grey.

When TFT makes sense
- The phone came with an LCD in the first place — you won't see a downgrade.
- It's a backup phone, a phone for a child or an older parent, or you plan to sell it.
- You don't use the in-screen fingerprint and mostly use the phone in daylight.
